Cloudy with a chance of meatballs As of now, shoppers can buy Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs on 3D Blu Ray as a standalone purchase, and not accompanied by a 3D TV, Blu-ray player, or starter kit.

This film was originally received fairly well by critics, and currently has a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, giving it an overall rating of “Fresh”.

As the film was originally created to be shown in 3D there shouldn’t be any quality issues with regards to the stereoscopic effect, and although aimed more at children it’s entertaining enough to to act as a good introduction for the whole family to the world of 3D films.

Philips 3D TVWelcome to the 3DTV.co.uk blog, your number one resource for all things 3D TV related. We will be bringing you all the latest news from the world of 3D Television, news and reviews on the latest equipment, the introduction of 3D TV to the UK, discussions of new technology and possible future implementations.

So what exactly is 3D TV? Unless you have been living under a rock since late last year you will probably have seen Avatar at least once. This is the film that has changed the landscape of cinema almost single handed, and given us what may be the most important addition to the experience of film since colour and sound. 3D television and films give the illusion of depth perception to images. This is accomplished by overlaying two images filmed from slightly different perspectives, just like how our eyes see in three dimensions, and using one of several different methods to ensure that each eye only receives the information from one image.

You may not have realised, but 3D TVs are already available here in the UK starting around the £2000 mark so not that much more than a high-end HD TV. The Sky 3D channel began broadcasting on 3rd April 2010, and will be showing a number of live sporting events in three glorious dimensions for those lucky enough to already have a 3D TV! If you haven’t just yet you don’t need to miss out as there are a range of pubs and cinemas up and down the country who will be showing 3D events live as well.

Of course in the not too distant future there will be 3D films available on Blu-Ray disks. Dedicated 3D movie channels, sports channels, and other more general channels, as uptake of the new technology grows, just as we saw with HD a few years ago.

The other area where 3D technology can add something extra to the experience in the immediate future is of course video gaming. We have no doubt that Sony and Microsoft in particular are already well into the development process, possibly linking it to their forthcoming video and motion controllers. Sony in particular have talked about the PS3 being 3D gaming enabled in the near future.

The future is definitely bright and varied for 3D TV and technology in general, and we hope you’ll join us for every step of this particular voyage of discovery.
